The Banks Foundation 2011 Golf Tournament Raised Over $27,000
RTP, NC: The Banks Foundation, a tax-exempt organization that assists families who are moving from welfare to work and from public housing to private homeownership, held its Eighth Annual Charity Golf Event on Friday June 17, 2011 at The Preserve at Jordan Lake Golf Club in Chapel Hill, NC. Teams joined basketball legend Walter Davis to raise funds to benefit the Foundation. Eno Haven Apartments was the Title Sponsor of the event.
The night before the golf tournament, a reception and silent auction was held at Brier Creek Country Club with Keith Medlin of WRAL as Emcee and Lonetta Love, a recipient of the Foundation’s down payment assistance program, giving a keynote. Attendees of the reception included Jerry Stackhouse, James Worthy, Walter Davis and Rod Broadway.
The golf tournament began the next day with 82 golfers taking the course, including celebrity players, Phil Ford, James Worthy, Al Wood, Levelle Moton and Henry Frazier. Six high school players were also sponsored.
Awards were handed out for the first, second and third place winning teams, as well as the high school winner. Awards were also distributed for closest to the pin and the longest drives.
“The golf tournament was a fantastic event, and we continue to see the reception gain momentum,” said Sherrod Banks, President of the Foundation. “We are very appreciative of all the sponsors and players who give so much time and money to our cause, and we are excited about the growing support from local sports celebrities, as well!”
